During a regular meeting Monday, the Brush City Council will act on the first reading of an ordinance that would allow the city to offer certain utility services outside city limits. During a past meeting, Brush Administrator Monty Torres told the council that the ability to offer wastewater services to rural Morgan County residents would help generate revenues for the city. He said two county residents have already expressed interest in using the services.

There will be a special meeting of the Cuba School Board at the end of the month to discuss re-prioritizing further renovations to the track and field complex. The results of that meeting could dictate what remaining work at the track gets done first. After hearing a presentation from the Crawford County Foundation's Track Committee at the October board meeting, the board asked that a special meeting be devoted to the topic, so that more time can be spent to iron out how best to move forward with the fi

Mayor Diana Smith is trying to set up a joint meeting of the village and town boards to discuss the revenue the town receives from Seneca Meadows landfill. The village, through its law firm, filed a Freedom of Information Law request with the town several weeks ago, seeking data on landfill revenues over the past five years and how the money was spent. Village officials said they needed the information as part of the ongoing discussion over village dissolution and sharing services with the town.

Superintendent Sara-Jane Querfeld made a PowerPoint presentation in regard to the school district's annual report card from the state, titled "Strategic School Profiles." Each year, numerous academic details are reported to the state regarding every school in Connecticut. The community's data is available on the school district's Web site, and comparisons with the other 168 towns across the state may also be drawn from the information provided by the state online.

There was an interesting twist to a city council meeting in Durango, Colorado earlier this week. A giant chicken showed up. In the middle of an executive session a person dressed in a chicken costume strutted into the meeting, apparently to show support for an ordinance that was being discussed that would make it legal for people to own backyard chickens in Durango.

Voters Monday night passed every article on the special Town Meeting warrant, including amendments to the town's zoning bylaws. Town Clerk Margaret Bonderenko said only 34 voters attended the session. The Planning Board did not change the content of the town's zoning bylaws, Town Coordinator Dale Pleau said.

The board of selectmen is irritated its meetings had not been shown on local cable for a month and that at the time of the meeting, it was not being broadcast live to the public. "The selectmen's meeting playback went from many nights to nothing," Kimball said. "Tonight there is no live feed. It's not the same as it used to be. We are not getting what we pay for."
